The Fun Lovin' Criminals
We took a pre-hike hike on Saturday evening to... ahh, get a lay of the lands.
funny story: that dead brown tree. Our good friend Ben had an incident where his cell phone decided it had enough of constantly being groped by him and it tried to jump off the cliff. Unfortunately for the phone, but lucky for Ben, it got caught by that tree. In the end were able to make a team rescue of the phone (THERE IS A PHOTO OF THE RESCUE, I will upload it when I get my hands on it)
HERE WE GO!
Ricky over the edge, Josh holding Ricks ankles, Ben holding Joshs belt, Jeff lighting the way, and Tara taking the photo. TEAM WORK!
ohhh Ben
Spider dogs obvs. ( here is a link to instructions on how to make spider dogs.... LOL http://www.kansascityjellystone.com/images/pdfs/spider-dogs.pdf)
Campsite was $25ish for the night. we had 5 ppl and fit three tents on the lot no prob (excessive tents I know). The campsites are far from back country, you can see all your neighbors fires at night. Also provincial liquor ban until July 3 kept people awkwardly quiet at night. None the less the sites were all clean and well maintained, water taps, outhouses and even a bigger flush toilet facility was all available. (here is a link to the camp site http://www.novascotiaparks.ca/parks/blomidon.asp)
So the hike we did was a 14 km loop with a time of just over 4hrs (at a pretty casual pace overall, including all our breaks and our beach party), the hike took us over 4 different trails (Borden Brook, Jodrey, Woodland, and Look-off trail). They don't link up perfectly as you have to pop back onto the roads to connect them up (it works though, just makes it more awkward to hike naked). The trails are well marked with yellow or red spray paint depending on which direction you are heading, also signs and on-trail maps are posted throughout.
on Borden Brook trail we found some sweet waterfalls. We thought "aww thats nice". then we walked up the stairs
and there was more waterfalls (Jeff likes waterfalls)
waterfall goes down
it just kept going. we were expecting a little baby waterfall, but this thing was bigger than any baby I've ever seen.
decided to investigate further, see if I could find more (no luck, but still cool) didn't even get my feet wet. whats the number one rule of hiking!?! that's right, keep your feet dry.
oh look who decided to meet us at the beach. our good friend Borden Brook.
the beautiful Fundy Bay from the ocean floor.
The Borden Brook trail ends before the beach. After our beach stop, we got on the Jodrey trail which follows along the coast until Look-Off trail.
From the beach to the mountains (surf and turf?). looking back to where we were.
We climbed about 170-180m in about km er so. all I know for certain is I was sweating like a... lot. a lot of sweat. The look off is an excellent spot for a water break and photography opportunities. A picnic table also awaits, but be careful it needs a wrench like whoa.
HEY! lets hike to that point! (looking from the last point on Jodrey trail over to Look-Off trail)
and we did. and we found a giant rock that looks like a gorilla. So I hear by call this "Gorilla Point" (tell your friends). Look-Off trail is an optional loop that you don't need to take. Instead you can continue right from Jodrey to Woodland Trail. (you can just steal this pic and tell all your friends you did the extra loop.)
this was the last of lots of mud pits, hit at least 5 em on the hike. good thing we were so nimble (Ben mostly just danced across them, slick dude)
I had such a good time on the hike that I drove straight to Luckett's Vineyard and made a free long distance call to my Mom.
